Who we are
We are the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Auxiliary, and we operate the website https://santacruzcountycert.org.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Database
When you contact us to sign up for a training class, or request information, you give your permission for us to collect certain personal information about you. At a minimum, we collect your name and email address, and may also collect phone number, mailing address, and other information you provide. We store this information in our database.
We use this information to send you notices of CERT activities and communicate with you as needed about training classes you have signed up for.
Financial Information
On infrequent occasions, there may be something on our website where you can pay for something (like a donation to the CERT Auxiliary, or ordering a meal at an event). For these items, PayPal will collect personal information like name, address, email address, and phone number. It will also collect payment information, like credit card or PayPal account. We don’t get the information PayPal collects.
Browser Information
As you look at pages on the website, information is collected including your IP address, what pages you visited, and details of the browser and computer operating system you are using. This information is used, if at all, strictly for analyzing traffic usage on the website.
Local CERT Teams
We maintain a web page with information about local CERT teams in Santa Cruz County. If you have given your name and contact data (email address, phone number) for that team, we will post it on the web page.
Retention of Information
Database
When we want to send out information about CERT and upcoming activities, we email it to those people in our database who have given us permission to send to them.
After each mailing, our mailing list service — MailChimp — has your email address in its list. That list is replaced when we do another mailing.
If you do not wish to receive messages from us, you can click Unsubscribe on any email from us, and we will mark your record in our database as not wanting to receive notifications.
If you wish to have your record removed entirely from our database, write to us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Who we share your data with
Access to your data in our database is limited to those in the CERT Auxiliary who have a need to see it, like our training registrar. On occasion, we may share your data with a CERT Team Leader in your neighborhood, so they can connect with you about local CERT meetings, exercises, and other activities.
As mentioned above, we share your email address with our mailing list service, MailChimp (privacy policy). On those few occasions where we are collecting money, PayPal (privacy policy) will collect your financial data; we do not see it.
We do not share any of your data with anyone else.
Again, if you wish to have your data removed from our database, write to us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Protection of your data
The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Our database is stored on Google servers (privacy policy). Information you enter on our Contact form is sent to us by unencrypted email. All financial transactions use secure payment systems. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
